I’d rather mix vocals recorded on a $400 set-up in a room that has good treatment.. Then mix vocals recorded on a $3,000 mic in a room with no treatment.

The environment you record in plays a major role in recording quality.  We want to avoid reflections (think of that wishy washy sound you hear in a cave or in a completely empty room with no furniture.) as much as possible and keep the recording dry.  A dry vocal is one that captures only the voice allowing for all effects to be added in mixing.

There are 3 main ways to fix this starting with easiest and moving to hardest.

1.  Buy an "eyeball" or shield and attach to mic

2.  Create your own recording booth

3.  Treat your recording room with acoustic foam
